Isn’t being upset with the “Best of Topeka” poll, it’s results and the indifference in Topeka what you, me, NewTopeka, ReThinkTopeka, ThinkBigTopeka, 785, Fast Forward, Etc. and a shitload of other residents are all about?
Isn’t it why we care? Aren’t these terrible results why we organize? And if WE don’t change the system then who? If we complain about CJ but don’t offer a solution why would they change it? Why would everyday residents know or even care about another restaurant beside Goddamn Olive Garden.
I suggest WE, not just one person or one group WE create an alternative “Best Of Topeka” and the results of the poll can be posted in 785 and/or ran as an ‘ad’ in CJ. We could provide the choices. REAL Topeka choices. You could go to the restaurant, order a burger and get a burger ballot. this would require participation with the residents to actually eat out locally then vote. Don’t eat at one joint you can’t rank it. If Visit Topeka can have success with the residents of Topeka going to see new places and learn new things (with some businesses offering discounts/coupons for participants) we could get them to go to new eateries and try new foods. Then rank it. Then show CJ and the Indifferent that there really is a New Topeka. The problem is new Topeka is a small bud trying to grow thru the old cement cracks of a sidewalk that people aren’t noticing cause they are on their way to get “Italian” food at F’n Hyvee.
