I made it. Got the train to KC in five hours and 20 minutes. Drove home and then met up with these ladies and had a great day.
This was taken at the halfway house where some folks don’t take their meds and get aggressive. Because of that the ladies stay in the car. When the unstable ones come around I put myself between them and the car, she hands me the coffee and I hand it to them. If the person is Coo Coo for Cocoa Puffs but kind and funny we let them approach.
This paticular gentleman getting the coffee is older and kind. I told him to say “hi” to Stephanie (handing him the coffee) because this was her first time volunteering with us and that she was single (married with a kid) and giving out kisses as well(not). Catie in the passenger seat is our rock. She is this super caring girl that has huge social anxieties but when she is out with us, she is a champ. A leader. She has volunteered time and time again.
This was another day in the books but I have to say, after helping people and laughing with them and shaking their hands and giving them something without conditions feels amazing each time. Its a drug to me. I feel bulletproof and so goddamn alive.
We passed out five gallons of coffee, a case of water and a case of granola bars and now that I again have been awake for 24 hours, I’m going to pass out.
The next time to help out others cannot come soon enough.
